Buddhism Travels West

Although Buddhism spread throughout Asia it remained virtually unknown in the West until modern times. The early missions sent by the emperor Ashoka to the West did not bear fruit.

Support Needed: Empowering Education and Knowledge Preservation at Tsangpa Khangtsen through the Library Project

Date: July 03, 2023 02:47 PM

We have an important project and plan at Tsangpa Khangtsen in Sera Jey Monastery, South India, and we would greatly appreciate any financial and moral support to help us achieve our goals. By contributing to these projects and plans, you will be directly assisting over 200 legitimate monks at the Khangtsen, enabling us to cover the costs of education and social activities.

One of our key initiatives is the Library Project. Throughout history, our Khangtsen has been a renowned center for producing great scholars, and this legacy continues even in exile. Notable masters who have emerged from our institution include the current 104th Gaden Tripa, as well as esteemed figures such as the late Professor Lhundup Sopa from Wisconsin University (USA) and the late Khensur Lobsang Dhonyeo la. The late Sera Jey Tsangpa Khensur Lobsang Tsering la also dedicated his efforts to preserving Buddhist studies, even during his holidays at monasteries like Tashi Lhundpo and Zhongkhar Chode every Tuesday. To ensure the continuous preservation of their teachings for the benefit of our younger generation and students, we urgently require a fully equipped Library.

To establish an ideal Library, we require the following:

  1. A spacious room with ample ventilation and lighting.
  2. Dharma books and other necessary stationery.
  3. Bookshelves for organizing and storing the books.
  4. Furniture, including tables and chairs, for comfortable studying.
  5. A projector and its accessories to facilitate multimedia presentations.
  6. Black and white boards for traditional teaching methods.
  7. Sound systems to enable listening to audio materials.
  8. Computer systems for digital resources and research.

By providing support towards these needs, you will contribute significantly to the preservation and dissemination of Buddhist knowledge within our Khangtsen. Your generosity will directly benefit the monks and ensure they have access to the necessary resources for their education and spiritual development.
